Wood-smoked meats will soon be served in Queens as Mighty Quinn’s, a Zagat-awarded barbecue staple, will open four locations by financial power couple Michael and Paula Dolan by the end of the year.

“The average BBQ consumer is more adventurous with different flavors like the intense and smoky flavors that the food of Mighty Quinn’s embodies so I think it will translate well to the diverse people in Queens,” said Michael, who worked on Wall Street for 14 years before deciding to follow his passion for food.

Currently, Mighty Quinn’s has a total of nine corporate-owned locations, a restaurant at Yankee Stadium and five international franchised locations.

The new four-unit deal will allow the Dolans to open four franchises throughout Queens with the first location to be opened by the end of the year. Although the couple was originally eyeing Long Island City for their first location, they’re now considering real estate opportunities in Astoria and Forest Hills.

“We are more interested in finding the perfect location for Mighty Quinn’s to fit rather than just rushing to open the first Queens location,” said Micha Magid, one of the co-founders of Mighty Quinn’s, who plays a supportive role in the franchise openings.

Despite never owning a restaurant, both Michael and Paula’s upbringing contributed to this new career chapter in their lives.

Paula grew up in Italy, watching her family cook traditional northern Italian meals together around the kitchen table.

Michael’s years-long fascination with food led to him buying his own charcoal grill to test out his own smoked creations a couple of years ago.

The couple, who were customers at Mighty Quinn’s years before setting their eye on opening their own locations, saw opportunity in the company’s unique business structure combined with bold and flavorful cuisine.

With locations throughout Manhattan, the tri-state area and international locations in places like Dubai and Manila, Queens seemed like the next best borough to test out the smoked delicacies.

“Mighty Quinn’s offers a unique concept, which is a fast and casual setup but also has a bar and hang-out seating area for those who want a more sit-down restaurant experience,” said Michael.

The first location will be set up with a Chipotle-style order and pay line but will be a bigger location with tables and a bar similar to the restaurant’s popular East Village location.

“They want to bring what we do in Manhattan to Queens,” said Magid. “Queens is a bit underrated as far as this type of concept.”

Although the menu will remain the same as the current locations, both the Dolans and the Mighty Quinn’s team looks forward to tapping into the plethora of cuisines found around the borough to test out dishes unique to the neighborhoods that they open in.

“If we are in a pocket of Queens that has a specific demographic, we are open to combining their cuisines with our traditional BBQ items,” said Dolan.

Similar to one of their New Jersey locations where the surrounding communities is diverse as the food’s flavor profiles, they look forward to how their traditional smoked-meats and BBQ will mix with the diversity of Queens.

“Foreign cuisines have bold flavor profiles so they are more inept to try our food so we think because of that, we will be a great fit for Queens,” said Magid.

While Queens residents wait for the opening of Mighty Quinn’s in their borough, Mighty Quinn’s will soon announce other exciting and innovative ventures set to open in and around the city within the coming months.

In the meantime, the East Village location has been open since 2011 serving dishes like brisket, chicken wings, Brontosaurus rib and sides like mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole.
