Stopping terror

Dear Editor,

Vehicle attacks against innocents civilians in Jerusalem, Istanbul, Berlin, London, Nice, Brussels and now Barcelona cause world uproar following the attacks except the ones in Israel.

Terrorist groups warned all western countries of upcoming attacks, yet all have failed to protect their constituencies by not condemning the attacks in Israel, by not heeding the warnings and properly vetting refugees, and by not taking the proper security measures around public buildings and places.

The overlooking of the terrorism in Israel only sent a message to worldwide terrorist organizations that the West would not come out against them as long as they only attacked Jews in and out of Israel.

Unfortunately, the payback for this dereliction of duty is a whopping loss of life and property damage, as well as a diverse long list of injured, including all religions, all races, all sexual orientations, and all political perspectives.

Terrorist attacks have to be condemned with the same "fury and fire" no matter where the attacks target. Second, terrorist threats must be taken seriously everywhere large groups of people assemble, and lessons from previous attacks used to limit the resulting damage.

Sincerely,

Jacques Hakim

Bayside
