I wrote an article here in April 2013 regarding the aftermath and Real Estate.
COME HOME NEW YORKERS
We could not accommodate all the families looking to relocate to Middle Village and Maspeth areas. I stated years ago that the pattern was to get worse according to studied data I reported on.
Many New Yorkers from our Communities go to Florida, North Carolina, Georgia to retire. It is not new, it has been going on for over 50 years.
However, how many times, can 60-90 year olds go through the anxiety, the stress, the hustle to evacuate, try and fly out of the areas, etc..
Snow birds may have to renovate all the expected damages to their homes before going during winter. Those who live there now, may not want to go back to undergo such uncomfortable conditions and to renovate all their damages and continue to live there once again.
So it is my 38 years of experience, that tells me, many New Yorkers are coming back to rent or to purchase here once again. People who have conditions, small children, or just retired can not and should not have to deal with this awful experiences of complete devastation.
Why go through it again? Why do you have to live with that on the back of your mind year after year.
So do to supply and demand I expect rents to continue to go up and houses to. Middle Village and surrounding areas have low taxes compared to many other areas of Queens and especially Long Island.
Between traffic, the expressway, high taxes and flood insurance I do not see anything wonderful anymore about moving to Long Island.
Back to Middle Village, where you can walk from your apartment, or house to any supermarket, Restaurant, Pizzeria, bus, train, Doctor's office, means the definition of Convenience. Peace of Mind.
