Anit Hora, an that owns Veda Holistics in Williamsburg, received her training from the Aveda Institute in New York. But although that center gave her the professional training needed to start her own business, it was the experience in India watching her grandmother concoct ayurvedic beauty treatments that laid dormant in her mind as she grew up, revealing itself as she became an adult.

Her grandmother's natural way of beautifying and healing herself ended up being the inspiration behind Hora’s turn to the holistic world.

Before that, she was a fashion designer for seven years, working in New York City.

But after years of corporate work and a backpacking trip to South America, she returned to Brooklyn with a new mission.

“I just wanted to live a more holistic life,” she said. “My entire 20s was spent in the office, every night, on weekends and one day I said, 'I can’t spend my entire life here.'”

After she quit her job and spent a year and a half in South America, she returned with a different perspective.

“When I got back I said I don’t know if I could work in an office ever again, I don’t know if I could be constricted like that anymore,” Hora said.

That thinking led her to follow her holistic calling, conjured up from memories of her grandmother. “Growing up she’d always be in her room making stuff and some people believed it was witchcraft but I was fascinated by it,” she said.

Hora, 31, started Veda Holistics a year ago. Working out of a space in the Namaste Yoga and Tranquility Center, she offers facials and waxing while maintaining a focus on natural techniques.

“I look at the person, I look at the lifestyle, their diet and we talk about what they need,” she said. “I mix a few custom things for each client.” Her consultations make her treatments personalized to each individual and she wants it to be a personal experience.

Currently, Hora is also studying to become a herbalist with plans to create her own skin care line.

“I’m excited; I feel like I have so many possibilities and I just want to do things in the most pure, natural way,” said Hora.
