Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying an individual wanted for a rape on Sunday, May11 p.m. near 89th Avenue between 102nd and 104th Streets in Richmond Hill.

The suspect grabbed a 19-year-old girl from behind, forced her behind a house and sexually assaulted her.

Concern over safety spread through the usually quiet neighborhood in the next couple of days, according to Community Board 9 District Manager Mary Ann Carey.

A couple of the board members live in the area, she said.

"But then again if you have a predator, someone that's looking to harm a woman, it can happen any place," Carey added.

The intersection where the assault occurred is several blocks from the closest public transportation, meaning the predator either walked over there or is a local resident, she said.

"Definitely people are on edge, especially people that have children that go out at night," she said. "I hope they catch this guy and put him away for a long time."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 35 years old, between 5'5" and 5'7", and 190 to 210 pounds. He has spiked hair, and was wearing a tank top with characters from the Family Guy cartoon on the front, and cargo shorts.

Police ask that anyone with information about the suspect call 800-577-TIPS. Tipsters can also log into NYPDcrimestoppers.com or text TIP577 to 274637 (CRIMES).
