It's amazing how fast time flies. It seems like just yesterday we celebrated the beginning of summer and Memorial Day, and now we are welcoming July 4th.

We are into the full warmth of summer, so get out and enjoy the sunshine and the high temperatures. Go to Forest Park or the beautifully renovated Rockaway Beach.

Three years ago, we thought the collapsed building at 78-19 Jamaica Avenue was going to be demolished. This Woodhaven eyesore would be cleared and we could hopefully build senior housing and keep the Woodhaven/Richmond Hill Ambulance Corps and senior citizen center. This was not to be.

This building is still a graffiti-vandalized (which the WBID removes), dark and scaffolded eyesore. The owners still say they are “rebuilding it.”

The ambulance corps has been sold, and Priceless Discount Store was built there. It is clean and newly renovated inside and outside, unfortunately they still have the eyesore next door.

As I have said from the beginning, “tear it down.” It's still not too late.

As we observe Independence Day, more than ever fly our American flag proudly above all others from your homes or apartments. We have so much to celebrate in that we live in America, the best and most generous country in the world. Happy Birthday America. Have a safe enjoyable Fourth.

May God bless our armed forces that preserve our freedom, may God bless our disabled veterans that have sacrificed so much, may God bless our leaders, may God bless the NYPD and police officers everywhere, and may God bless our great America.
