Splashes Of Hope is a nonprofit organization that works with artists to transform spaces with colorful murals.

“As the themes of our murals vary for each art piece, it is our goal to depict all of the beauty life has to offer, said executive director Sarah Baecher. “Our murals are created to be timeless, memorable, permanent legacies, allowing the viewer to be present, at peace, and in the moment.”

The artists are working on several projects at the moment, including several murals in Brooklyn, a nursing home and family clinic in Long Island, a child advocacy center in Knoxville, Tennessee, and a veterans’ association facilty in Florida.

“We also create murals for children with serious medical challenges, who we call our ‘Splash Stars,’ in which we will paint a customized art piece featuring all of the child’s favorite things, including characters, places, foods, and more,” said Baecher. “Then we install the mural in their bedroom or family area to be enjoyed by all,”

Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, which also has a Splashes of Hope mural at its 69th Street branch, sponsored murals at Queens, Elmhurst and Jamaica hospitals.

“There are now murals located right at their front entrances to be viewed by healthcare workers and visitors alike, serving as a permanent exhibition of their service every day, and especially during such a trying time as the pandemic,” said Baecher.

“Now more than ever we understand the mental torment in isolation from the pandemic,” said Baecher. “That is why one’s environment is so crucial to the stability of mental health. That is what we do, enhance surroundings for others that need it most.”
