Pair of Johnnies Earn Big East Weekly Honors

For the second time in the last three weeks St. John’s University men’s soccer graduate defender Lucas Bartlett has earned a spot on the Big East Conference’s five-man weekly honor roll.
Bartlett, who played at both Loyola Chicago and Drake University prior to joining the Johnnies and was a First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in 2020-21, has anchored SJU’s back line as the team has collected shutouts in six matches this season. The Overland Park, KS native has started all 10 games this season and is tied for the team lead in goals (3) while ranking second on the team in assists (3).
Freshman Micaah Garnette (Parlin, NJ) ended a scoreless deadlock with a left-footed strike in the 79th minute of the Red Storm’s 1-0 victory at Princeton last Tuesday night. It was the first goal of Garnette’s college career. Bartlett picked up an assist on Garnette’s goal, which proved to be the game-winner, and scored his own goal on Saturday in a draw with UConn.
Following the win over Princeton and the draw at archrival UConn, St. John’s is now unbeaten in its last seven games (6-0-1) dating back to their Labor Day shutout of Fordham.
The Red Storm earned a single vote in last week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll, which ranks Division I men’s soccer teams, on NCAA.com. SJU’s place in the national rankings was hurt by their Sept. 4 loss to Martist at home at Belson Stadium. St. John’s faces Georgetown, top-ranked by both the USC poll and by TopDrawerSoccer.com, on October 20 at 2 PM in Washington, D.C.
The Red Storm hosted Providence in a battle of Big East unbeateans on Wednesday night. The Friars were ranked number 24 on the Top 25 Rankings by Top Drawer Soccer.
